Application development teams seeking to improve application performance sooner or later reach the point of diminishing returns in efforts to optimize data access performance and reduce CPU consumption. The organization either assumes nothing more can be done, or it starts to turn over rocks looking for creative approaches. Some teams hit on the idea of writing code to copy static, frequently accessed reference data from a data or file management system into memory where it is accessed much more quickly, and at greatly reduced CPU cost. The downside to this approach is the need to write and maintain complex code. The greater the level of functionality and flexibility desired, the greater the effort. There is a better approach.
Manages Reference Data In Memory
All Applications Share Access to Centralized Reference Data Via Powerful API Command Set
Reference Data Access Performance Is Dramatically Improved and CPU Consumption Reduced.
Rich Interface for Defining, Loading and Maintaining Reference Data Tables
Data Can Be Loaded From A Variety of DBMS and Accessed via a Variety of Programming Languages
Log-On DPT is a comprehensive solution for caching frequently accessed, relatively static reference data in memory. A single authoritative copy of your reference data is stored in high speed cache for access by all your applications. Applications then retrieve Data from cache avoiding the costly trip to its original source. Data can be sourced from a variety of DBMS and File Management Systems including Db2, IMS, IDMS, Adabas and VSAM. Performance for online transactions and batch jobs can be accelerated by a factor of ten and more. Programs access data in DPT tables via a standard program interface. A very efficient retrieval algorithm accelerates performance and provides substantial CPU savings. As an added bonus, DPT enables definition, standardization, centralization and maintenance of data reference tables.
Benefits and Savings
- Sophisticated management system for centralized control of REFERENCE data
- Loads tables to memory for superfast access. Eliminates expensive round trips to DBMS’ and file management systems resulting in improved performance and reduced CPU
- Supports billions of accesses a day
- Organizations using DTP attest to performance gains that make running without DPT unthinkable
Features and Capabilities
- DTP preloads tables into memory from sources including Db2, VSAM and Adabas
- Tables can be accessed from CICS and TSO.
- Supports Cobol, Pl/1, Assembler, Natural, SAS, and other languages.
- Offers rich API command set.
- Simplifies managing and modifying DPT table structures.
